Apogee is actively seeking a full-time Avionics Engineer Subject Matter Expert (SME) supporting the Cyber Resiliency Office for Weapon Systems (CROWS) at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH. Apogee provides Systems Security Engineering, Weapon System Cybersecurity, and Acquisition Intelligence Engineering to help advance the CROWS two primary objectives: Build secure, resilient weapon systems and fix critical vulnerabilities in legacy weapon systems across the United States Air Force.

What you'll be doing:

  • Evaluating the technical implementation of the security design to ascertain security software, hardware, and firmware features
  • Applying MIL-HDBK-516C, Airworthiness Certification Criteria, to aircraft systems and subsystems
  • Evaluating designs and solutions to defend weapon systems and critical networks against malicious and non-malicious exploitation throughout the full acquisition lifecycle of portfolio programs
  • Supporting assessment of the cyber posture of legacy systems and assist in the determination of a prioritization strategy to fix existing and future cyber vulnerabilities
  • Developing reports outlining the mitigation objectives and legacy system cyber resiliency strategy
  • Providing support to review products that include the following: technical evaluations/plans; engineering studies, reports, and analyses; and acquisition strategies/plans
  • Supporting Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) document (i.e. PDR) development consultation and review
  • Providing rapid response engineering service and support as augmentation to organic resources through in-depth problem identification, impact assessment, and development of corrective actions for critical supportability problems within the scope of the Cyber Resiliency Support Team (CRST) charter
  • Providing support to cybersecurity incident response efforts and/or teams as needed


  • TS/SCI required
  • ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline
  • MS in aerospace or engineering discipline preferred
  • 10+ years of experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD)/Air Force programs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • USAF weapon systems acquisition experience (desired, not required)
  • Senior executive briefing experience (desired, not required)
  • Experience with MIL-HDBK-516C and the USAF Airworthiness process (desired, not required)
